In the early 1950's Dick Bown began racing cars as a hobby. This led to a cluttered array of wrecked cars in Mr. Bown's driveway. As time went on, he knew he would need to dispose of the salvage decorating his family home. A man in his early 20's full of energy and dreams, Mr. Bown believed the most practical way to remove this carnage of wrecked race cars and parts cars was to sell the undamaged parts and sell the remains for scrap value.
Mr. Bown owned and operated "Playmore Billiards" at the time. His billiard career looked promising. He had been called upon by some of the nations best billiard competitors to "set up" their personal pool tables. Many of Mr. Bown's local billiards customers were racers. This led to his never-ending addiction to the automobile and auto racing. As Mr. Bown's love for auto racing increased, so did the salvage at his home. When the city officials caught wind of this, they insisted Mr. Bown immediately remove this eyesore and cease the selling of used auto parts. But Mr. Bown knew there were valuable parts and pieces within this accumulation. And, besides, he "needed" many of these parts and pieces to repair his own race cars when he was unfortunate enough to be involved in racing accidents. He then asked the city officials what he needed to do to be able to continue with his newly discovered hobby. This led to Mr. Bown's venture into the used parts business and the beginning of Rose Auto Wrecking, Inc. He then sold the billiard business to develop his auto parts business. Today, at over 70 years old, Mr. Bown continues to oversee the parts business, and has developed his racing hobby into a business as well, owning a NASCAR Busch Grand National Series team. Rose Auto Wrecking, Inc. has earned a reputation for being a pioneer when it comes to developing systems or methods to provide better service, yet, at the same time maintaining old fashioned values when it comes to ethics, honesty, fairness and respect.
